Caroline asks…

what is cost of laser treatment for acne scars in delhi aand plz suggest doctor also?

Ben answers:

First try these natural remedies. If required then go for treatment. Log on to www.justdial.com for addresses.
Acne is a tremendously embarrassing and burdensome problem. It is easy to feel that you don’t have control over your breakouts. But the fact is, you do. Now, your first response may be to assume that I’m going to recommend you see your dermatologist. Well, think again. Natural remedies can be just as effective as medications. Possibly more powerful. Sometimes, all your body needs is the right nutritional balance and proper skin care. Here are some easy things you can start doing today to help you heal your acne. You should notice a difference in about 4 weeks.
Apply a honey mask to your face once or twice a week – Honey has antibacterial properties so it is great for disinfecting and healing minor blemishes. It is also gentle on sensitive skin.
Wash twice a day with acne soap – You should wash your face twice a day with a sulfur based soap designed for acne. Once when you first wake up in the morning and then, right before you go to bed at night. Be extremely gentle to your skin when washing – do not scrub or use any sort of rough cloth. Over washing your skin will actually stimulate your sebaceous glands to produce more sebum, thus increasing your acne.
Keep your hair off your face – If you have long hair or bangs, pull your hair off your face. Your hair contains oils as well, and will contribute to your breakouts. You’ll also want to wash your hair everyday and after workouts.
Take a potent multi-vitamin – Acne can be a sign that something is wrong on the inside. Your skin depends on nutrition. It is a vital organ that is usually neglected. If your body is not receiving the right nutrition, it will fight back. One common way it will rebel is to produce excessive sebum, clogging pores, and reducing the ability for your skin to heal and fight bacteria.
Include chromium in your diet – Chromium is well known for weight loss diets. But it is also excellent for healing infections on the skin. Taking a chromium supplement once a day will help heal your pimples quickly and prevent future breakouts.
Eat carrots for beta-carotene (Vitamin A) – Vitamin A strengthens the protective tissue of the skin and actually prevents acne. It helps reduce sebum production. This vitamin is essential for the maintenance and repair of the tissue which the skin and mucous membranes are made of. Vitamin A is also a powerful antioxidant needed to rid your body of toxins. Did you know that a deficiency in vitamin A can actually cause acne?
Avoid wearing makeup – Leaving makeup products on your skin only contributes to clogging your pores, causing more pimples and blackheads. If you feel you must wear makeup, be sure it is water-based.
Do not pick or squeeze your blackheads and pimples – As tempting as it may be, do not squeeze, scratch, rub or touch your pimples and blackheads. Do any of these actions, actually increases the sebum production. Plus, when you squeeze, you are actually rupturing the membranes below your skin, causing infection and sebum to spread underneath your skin. The result is more pimples.
Wash your pillow case every other day – Your face lays on your pillow case every day. Your pillow case absorbs the oils from your skin and reapplies the dirt and oil. Thus causing breakouts. Keep your sheets and pillow cases clean.
Eat foods rich in zinc – Zinc is an antibacterial agent and a necessary element in the oil-producing glands of the skin. A diet low in zinc can actually cause acne breakouts.

Ben answers:

John asks…

If you drink water really fast does it still help your skin?

I want to try to get flawless skin because i have red marks and acne scars and im tried of people telling me i changed my hair my style and i have those marks on my face and im going to try to drink lots of water and exercise and eat healthy and if i drink the 8 cups of water fast does it still work wit your skin?and can you help me with any home remedies for acne scars and red spots?

Ben answers:

Drinking 8 glasses of water doesn’t mean it’s the right amount for your body. It depends on your height and weight. Also, drinking water extremely fast is very bad for you. Drink anything slowly, pace yourself.
Water will work with your entire body, including your skin, as long as you consume it several times a day, throughout the day. And you can’t just do it one day and expect to be clear for the rest of your life, it’s an every day thing. I basically only drink water, occasionally tea, rarely ever milk. Soda causes me to break out, but it may not cause you to break out. I still don’t recommend drinking it, though. Same for juices, too.
I also take vitamins that are made specifically for the skin, immune system, and many other things. So far they’ve shocked me on how well they worked. It’s called One A Day Teen Advantage, they make one for guys, too. You have to take it with food and water. It’s help my skin, hair and nails very much. I’ve read that a lot of adults take the teen ones.
I follow a very specific regimen, as well. It consists of a lot of witch hazel. It’s got a weird smell, but it’s very cheap and works fast. You can apply it 3 times a day, too. It helps with redness, irritation, and acne. If you’ve got sunburns or bug bites, that’ll work with those, too! Another benefit is, it shrinks pores.
I put my witch hazel in my face washes and my moisturizer, and I use the witch hazel by itself as a toner. It does wonders in just a few days. The facial cleansers I use are Neutrogena Naturals (It just came out not too long ago, put a teaspoon of witch hazel in it. If that’s not enough, half of another is good) and I use Biore’s Steam Activated Cleanser (I also put witch hazel in that, same amount!). For my moisturizer, I use Clean&Clear’s Morning Burst Morning Glow (again, teaspoon of witch hazel).
It works very, very well. I highly recommend it to you.

Rachel asks…

What is your favourite (overnight) pimple remedies that work good and some what fast?

I am a 16 year old girl , i don’t have the worst acne but it worse that i hate talking to people because they look at your face. Mainly it is just the redness that bothers me more. So if you have something that works and you buy or make it at home thanks

Ben answers:

Mush up aspirin and then put visine in it to make a paste. That paste is amazing. You can feel it working as soon as you put it on.

Lisa asks…

How do i get rid of acne scars fast? Any home remedies? ?

I have an acne scar on my chin and I want to get rid of it before Christmas which is in 3 days … does anyone have any home remedies that actually work? I would appreciate the help!! Thanks!!!

Ben answers:

Hi there,

Here are 6 effective ways that fight acne naturally …

Herbal acne remedies seek to remedy the root cause of acne, which may represent more serious, unrecognized health problems. The truth is, the exact cause of acne remains unknown, often being triggered by a number of factors. Based on the factor that is mostly likely to trigger your acne, the herbal remedy will be applicable.

Factors that may contribute to acne include; imbalanced hormones, poor digestion, slow liver and bowel function and nutritional deficiencies all contribute to acne. Herbal acne treatment usually involves using herbal preparations topically and taking herbs specifically aimed at treating the cause of acne.

Essential Oils have shown great promise as a treatment for a number of skin conditions, particularly acne.

Note: As a rule, they should not be applied in their pure form, as some of these are very potent. You can dilute them or mix them with Grape seed Oil.

1. Lavender Oil
Apply lavender oil directly on the areas of acne or add a couple of drops of lavender oil to a plain cream sold at a drug store and use as a moisturizer or cleanser. In addition to smelling heavenly, lavender is also highly effective in fighting acne. It is effective mainly due to its anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antiseptic properties. Member of acne.org have commented and sworn by Lavenders ability to not only fight acne, but also reduce the redness, and it makes the skin baby soft! It eliminates the bacteria that cause the acne, after which it fixes the balance of the excess secretion of sebum, which the bacteria live on, and reduces the scars and redness left by acne.

2. Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil has outstanding antibacterial properties making it an effective treatment for acne, acting quickly. Studies have indicated that this is an effective treatment, with minimal side effects. In addition, it relieves rashes and burns, removes dandruff, and treats warts and other fungal infections.

3. Bergamot Oil
In addition to having this great, citrusy scent, Bergamot Oil proves to be effective in fighting acne. It has outstanding drying properties, keeps excess oil on our face in check, which normally triggers break outs. Bergamot oil has heavy antiseptic and antibiotic therapeutic properties; consequently it is helpful to sort out tricky skin conditions. Bergamot oil can be used in a diversity of methods such as creams, lotions and steam treatments.

Lynn asks…

Does anyone know how to….?

To get rid of acne and pimples?
I’ve tried every medication out there. The Pimples just won’t go away. Even the expensive products!

People who used to have pimples and or acne answer because I want to hear your story and what you did..
I know that this is a boring question because so many people on yahoo! answers ask this question over and over again, but I need the truth because I tried ALL the answers and they just won’t help my skin.
Are there any nautral remedies for your skin? Like for example rubbing Hydrogen peroxide and salt on your skin?
Please help me.. I want to get rid of pimples once and for all..
P.S. I don’t get much acne… only pimples..
P.P.S. I drink 8 glasses of water everyday, it helps only a little.
So please be specific, with a lot of details, because I know some people just copy and paste an article from the internet for these kind of questions. Thank you for your support! Best answer gets 10 points!
Every bit of detail counts! LOL… thanks you again….

Ben answers:

The only way to get rid of pimples is to see your doctor and have him/her prescribe something for you. If there was a natural remedy no one would have pimples.

Cindy asks…

really, another acne related question :) ))?

So i doubt i will get an answer i like but wth ill give yahoo answers a try.

I have perfect flawless slightly tanned skin on my arms. But my face is the exact opposite, acne ridden, red and horrible. So my question to the world is why do i have acne on my face but not on my arms? Is it a different type of skin? Given i have had 1/2 pimples on my arm (knock on wood), why is my face so awful? Wish i could switch out the skin on my arms to my face…is that possible? o.O

Ben answers:

Try putting toothpaste (paste, NOT gel) on your face, cover it with a bandage, and keep it on all night. When you wash it off in the morning your acne will look better. The astringent and surfactant nature of the toothpaste will help diminish the appearance of pimples. But the toothpaste has been known to burn sensitive skin of the face, so be careful. If your face does burn, stop acne treatments and work on healing your burn.

Try using Bentonite Clay, a natural mineral powder which has been known to absorb impurities and help neutralise the skin’s oiliness, and can be found online. Mix 2 tablespoons with a dash of cold water and smooth over the face as a thick paste. Once dried gently wipe off with a flannel or sponge.

Another way to zap pimples is shaving cream. Apply it to your pimple and it will dry it up. It disappears by morning, but washes your face after waking up. If nothing is working for you, drink four tablespoons of apple cider vinegar diluted with water daily. It works very well for some people and is worth a try. Another good solution is aloe Vera gel fresh from the plant, taken orally.

You can also try taking a zinc tablet everyday.

Im 13 and need to know if i should go on birth control.

I really need it to help me get rid of my acne, which is caused my hormone inbalance..
Cuz, my Doctor said 2 months ago that if the product he gave me didn’tt work that we might put me on birth control..
my mom is about to start birth control cuz she is having “anixity” problems and panic attacks and stuff.

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Atz1a_RZyiVSBO7Qb2a8cYzsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20080801040555AAxRG1y

There the details about my acne. Please answer that question if you can too.
anyways would there be anything bad about birth control? I’ve had my period since i was 10 or 9 if that matters.
proactive sucks and didnt work for mee.
Well my moms anixity problems are caused by a homronial imbalance.

Ben answers:

The pill is meant to help acne and it also regulates your periods which is good. Everyone’s different, Dianette is used a lot to help acne but this made me feel sick. Microgynon 30 was probably the best I took, Celeste was awful.

I have to say that I’ve never heard of anyone going on contraceptive pills to help anxiety, if anything they are meant to make it worse.

Susan asks…

Acne question, Experiences with; Roaccutane (Accutane, Isotretinoin).?

Hi there!

So upon recently visiting a dermatologist, and after many failed antibiotics prescribed for my Acne,

Zineryt,
Dacalin,
Oxytetracycline (twice)
And tetracycline .

Finally, I’ve been issued a prescription for “Roaccutane”, I’m very aware of the side effects and was wondering if anyone on Yahoo answers has any experience using this stuff.

I’ve seen reviews on sites that are very positive, in fact I her it’s quite the answer to Acne.

What were your results?
did your Acne return?
How pleased were you with Roaccutane?

I feel this is my last stand for my Acne, until maybe one day I grow out of it… but, we all know Acne can be self esteem destroying. I’m throwing all hope I have remaining into Accutane.

Thanks.

(I also asked this question elsewhere, Skin conditions I believe… but more answers the merrier. Also, many who wish to seek help with Acne may get the incentivee to visit a dermatologist if Accutane receives good reviews!)

Ben answers:

I was on Accutaine and it does work but the side effects aren’t worth it…. I had to get blood drawn twice a month because this stuff damages your liver and I HAD to sign a form agreeing that I would get an abortion if I were to get pregnant. If I were to get pregnant while on it, the chances of the child being deformed were high…. Also, extremely chapped lips was a side effect. I haven’t been on the stuff in years and my lips are still damaged. I should buy stock in chap stick (lol) The Dr also told me I couldn’t be in the sun for long periods of time and I was living in Hawaii at this point…. How can I avoid sun in Hawaii??? Good luck whatever you decide to take.

Shelley asks…

Will neutrogena oil free acne wash redness soothing cream cleanser help?

Will it help clear blemishes
(i mostly have them on my chin)
my acne isn’t severe or anything but it’s
still annoying

Ben answers:

Hey i am a Dermatologist and this is what i highly recommend to get rid of acne:

Step 1
Wash your face, neck and hairline once or twice daily with your cleanser I highly Recommend Neutrogena . Wash gently by rubbing your fingertips in a circular motion and rinse with lukewarm water.

Step 2
Purchase over-the-counter acne medications. You may have to try several before you find the best one for your skin. They come in a wide range of prices, and more expensive is not always better.

Step 3
Be careful when using all skin products. Apply only oil-free make-up, lotion and sunscreens. The ones that read “nonacnegenic” or “noncomedogenic” are best.

Step 4
Keep hair products out of your face. Cover your face with a towel while applying hair gel, hairspray and mousse. While taking a shower, wash your face last to remove shampoo and conditioner that may have run down your face.

Step 5
Keep sweat, germs and dirt off your face. Pull back long hair when it’s hot, and avoid wearing hats and sunglasses.

Step 6
See a dermatologist if your acne is affecting your self-confidence I am a Dermatologist but i cant perscribe anything to you online. A doctor may prescribe a heavy-duty medication or take further preventative measures.

Step 7
Change your diet. Eating chocolate, candy and greasy and unhealthy foods can definitely affect your complexion. Limit junk food intake, get plenty of vitamins and lead an overall healthy lifestyle.

The 1# Acne Product is Neutrogena It is the Best product out there in the WORLD My Favourite is The Neutrogena Pink GrapeFruit Acne Wash Which Clears up Blackheads Pimples and Unclogs pores. They truly have amazing skincare products. And trust me it really is Amazing and it is Great you are using it

I really Hope this helps you out

Charlie asks…

what is the best NON-COMEDOGENIC,fragrance free FACIAL moisturizer with SPF15/for severe ACNE prone skin?

Ben answers:

There’s an oil free moisturizer with spf 15 that comes in the acne free scar fade 2 step system it works wonders! (you can find it at wal-mart & target about $18-20 bucks) check the link to see pic

after i cleanse my face i use the 2 steps then put on my makeup, it makes my face look smoother. Also i used to have to pull out my powder during the day b/c i was oily but with this moisturizer i’ve noticed i just pull out my compact to check myself, and i still look fresh

Chris asks…

Does acne free severe work?? IS IT THE SAME AS PROACTIVE?

I’ve been using proactiv for a month now and the results have been minimal. I am wondering if i should give acne free severe a try instead of getting proactiv again. please help!!

Ben answers:

ProActiv start ingredient in benzoyl peroxide in 2.5% concentration. The University Medical AcneFree Severe Acne Treatment System contains 2.5% benzoyl peroxide cleanser and 10% benzoyl peroxide treatment, which is more aggressive, but higher risk of side effect. It can give you better results, but that is not always the case. In one study, 2.5% benzoyl peroxide did as well as 10%.

Bottom Line: test patch and keep the receipt. I believe on the label there is a satisfaction guarantee.

Steve asks…

Is the acne-free severe system good?

Just got a new system called Acne Free severe acne clearing system. Does anybody know if it is good?

Ben answers:

The system has its good points.

Pros:
-Benzoyl peroxide is the GOLD-STANDARD in the treatment of acne.
-Products contains an impressive list of anti-inflammatory and anti-irritant.
-Retinol is beneficial for renewing skin

Con
-Not everyone can tolerate benzoyl peroxide or retinol.
-The toner can be problematic because of the alcohol content.

Always do a test patch for safety.

Wayne asks…

Does the Severe Acne Free medicine work?

I’m using a whole set expired from like ’05 and i don’t see results maybe even worsened. Has it helped you???

Ben answers:

I was headed to the doc for a mild case of acne. I found a website of a dermatologist who gave tips for acne and he suggested washing your face with a antibacterial soap. I started washing my face with a antibacterial soap and my acne cleared up. I was spending money on expensive face washes but the soap worked well for me. My skin was a little dry at first but I begin to put coco butter on my face after washing it. The coco butter really helped the blemishes out a a lot.

Jane asks…

Which spot treatment is the best for acne?

I recently broke out a lot, on my upper lip, my chin and one on both sides of my cheek… I bought two spot treatments hoping it would help out a little. I bought one from Neutrogena, it says “On-the-Spot acne treatment” and that it’s a “vanishing cream” and “benzoyl peroxide acne medication” and that it is dermatologist recommended. The second one I bought was from “AcneFree severe” Terminator 10. It says it’s the “most powerful acne medication available without prescription” … Help?..Let me know which one you think would work best

Ben answers:

Benzoyl peroxide is one of the things you need to use to treat acne. Acne requires a multi-faceted approach. If you have acne clean your skin gently, ry not to touch your skin when your hands are not clean, and avoid the sun.

The three basics of acne treatment are to (1) unclog pores, (2) kill bacteria, and (3) minimize oil. Use mild exfoliating cleansers to unclog your pores. Use benzoyl peroxide to kill the bacteria. Get rid of oil on the surface of your skin by using a gentle toner. Generally drug store brands will do each of these things well. You don’t need to spend a fortune.

These are all good basic skin regimens that may help with the acne battle:

Cleanse twice daily with a 5% benzoyl peroxide wash. An alternative for those who are allergic to benzoyl peroxide is 2% salicylic acid.

Apply a gel or cream containing 5% benzoyl peroxide; an alternative is sulfur or resorcinol.

At night, apply a spot cream containing sulfur to the affected areas.

Use a light skin moisturizer and oil-free makeup.

If you try all these approaches and it still does not seem to work, it is time to consult your doctor. You may need a prescription medication approach to deal with your acne.

And read the information at these sites. You may find other ideas that will help you.

Chris asks…

How effective is LASER ACNE treatment?

I’ve tried many creams and over the counter products, I’ve gotten prescription cream from dermatologists, and I even used Proactiv Solution before (which didn’t work for me).

So, I’m looking into getting laser-acne treatment, which I’m hoping would be my last resort.

I have a mild case of acne on my face, nothing severe though.

So before getting laser acne treatment, could someone tell me if its effective at all? Like does it completely rid of the acne
after the procedure is done? How does it work and how much does it cost?
And please, no answers suggesting I use creams or creams they you know of that work.
I have been following this type of treatment for a LONG time now, and I am definitely gonna try laser treatment.

Also, I’m using laser treatment for my entire face.

Ben answers:

The thing with laser treatment is that it gets rid of scarring, but in no way is it an actual treatment for the acne itself, meaning when the acne comes back you will have to do it again for future scarring. It’s a superficial treatment only. Most people who have this done do it after they have been able to get the acne under control and their skin to the best point they can first.

Cost varies greatly from place to place, so I would schedule a consult with someone in your area. Because insurance does not cover it, they will give you an estimate up front at your consult.

I have not had laser work for acne, but I am doing it for permanent hair removal. For my armpits, bikini area and full legs, it cost $300.00 per treatment for the first two times. I am told it will take 2 or more times, and the cost will go down as treatment time needed goes down, but there is already a huge difference in that the hair growth has slowed down tremendously. I know that tells you nothing really, but I am thinking that since you are only talking about your face, it would not cost that much.

Joseph asks…

I need an ACNE treatment that actually WORKS!!!?

I am completely fed up with my acne! I’ve done everything: birth control, antibiotics, every acne system in stores, 2 prescription treatments, tea tree oil, emu oil, apple cider vinegar, masks, peels…EVERYTHING! And nothing makes a difference! If you know anything that can help me get my acne under control, please tell me! Thanks!
Proactiv made my skin worse..AcneFree Severe works for a few days, then it just dried up my skin really badly!

Ben answers:

It sounds like you have a tough case of acne that hasn’t responded well to the common, over-the-counter treatments. Fortunately, there are a lot of prescription medications and light-based treatments that can be highly effective. Below are a sample of potential treatments that you can discuss with your doctor.

Topical Antibiotics:
Mupirocin
Fusidic Acid
Altabax
Clindamycin

Oral Antibiotics:
Bactrim
Amoxicillin
Keflex
Doxycycline

Retinoids:
Accutane
Tretinoin
Adapalene

Light and Laser Treatments:
Blue Light Phototherapy
Photo Dynamic Therapy (PDT)
Diode Laser Therapy

Shelley asks…

Can I use Clearasil (acne treatment) to help make my sty go away?

As some of you may already know, I have had a sty for the last few months now. All the remedies I’ve tried haven’t worked so far (the doctor, warm compresses, tea, milk, prescription anti-biotic medications, you name it). So, now I’m thinking about throwing some Clearasil on my eyelid. The theory is: If the sty is like a pimple, then acne treatment products ought to clear it up. My only problem is: Why hasn’t anyone ever thought of this idea before? Am I missing something?

Ben answers:

Usually tissue around the eye is way too delicate for anything like Clearasil, which is highly astringent and will hurt like a muthafuckah if you get it in your eye. Highly astringent products can severely damage the eye and the tissues around it, that’s why. It’s your eye, you’ll do what you’ll do. But I doubt anyone here is going to recommend this course of action to you…

Caroline asks…

Tried any acne treatments with my skin type that work?

I have oily skin (not too bad), and I don’t get big blemishes, but I get really small little bumps all over my face. I’ve tried Proactive, Acne Free, etc, and I want something that will really clear my face up, especially the bumps all over my cheeks. I don’t want a prescription treatment, just something I can buy at Walmart. Anything that works well (or works miracles)? =] Thanks so much!
I’ve tried SkinID too.

Ben answers:

I’ve been in that situation and there is really nothing you can do about it. There are things you can do to try to reduce the blemishes and get rid of acne/pimples temporarily but you will always be finding yourself cleaning your face or your body depending on where it’s at.

I mean of course your acne should go away eventually but for some this is the case their whole life.

I’m 29 years old and have been suffering from these little pests since I was a teenager. I tried all sorts of face washes from the local grocery store and what not, but nothing seemed to work. If anything it would just make my skin dry and itchy.

Literally the best acne face wash I’ve ever used has been this stuff called clearpores. It has got rid of the acne to quickest and has been a success ever since I got it. It’s unique cause of it’s herbal supplement you take a long with it that helps your skin from the inside out. I saved money on it at skincleansingsystem.com at the time which was helpful.

You should really look into this stuff and if you can to assure the best results, get the 3 month supply because if it doesn’t work it will still save you butt on the return policy.

Well good luck and best wishes.

I have moderate acne, mainly on my forehead but some on my chin. They are small lumps, mainly whiteheads and no cysts (right now) but there are zillions of blocked pores and whiteheads. I’ve tried proactive and it didnt help. I’ve been to the doctor who prescribed 50mg doxycycline (antibiotics) per day for me to take. That didnt help either and made me feel terrible. I’ve used pretty much every facial cream and treatment and nothing works!! I have a ridiculously clean diet and drink 1.5 litres of water every day.

I think my acne may be hormonal but i am VERY reluctant to go on the birth control pill due to hazardous side effects. Please help!! Ten points will be awarded

Ben answers:

I had the same problem as you and I am now just ‘recovering’ from acne.
I tried everything under the sun but then my doctor prescribed me ZORAC and after six weeks my skin just totally cleared up it was great. Although it goes worse before it gets better but it is worth it.
Hopefully this helps.

Don asks…

Need some help clearing up bacne (back acne)! 14 yrs old and wants to feel confident over the summer!?

I am 14 years old and I have a problem with my back acne. It isnt severe or anything. I dont feel pain and there are no cysts on my back. There are just pimples on the upper part of my back going across. There might be around 20 total. I am now using some Clearasil face wash to wash it at night and i use one of the same types in the shower. After I wash it at night i wait around 10 minutes then i apply a cream on my entire upper back. Is there anything wrong with this? (If you need more details please just ask) This treatment is helping a little bit but i just got a girlfriend and I can’t wait to go to the beaches in the summer, but I would LOVE if this bacne is gone by then. I have heard that VINEGAR helps clearing it if u use a 10% vinegar 90% water mix. Any help at all is appreciated!

Ben answers:

Sounds like you’re doing the right things. Only thing that I might suggest is seeing if switching to something that’s not designated a face wash might work better. I hadn’t heard about vinegar being helpful, but you might want to try some rubbing alcohol or other astringent of some kind.

Jemima asks…

i’m having troubles with acne and i don’t know how to handle it?

after i switched to clean and clear my acne got a lot better. my left side of my face is basically perfectly clear. my right side is pretty clear too except for at the bottom along my jawline i have big bumps that never come to a head. they never really get red but once they start to swell they hurt really bad. although i’ve been putting a zit treatment with 10% benzoyl peroxide on it, it never makes them go away for good. they just eventually go down and lose the sorenes.. are these cysts? and if so how can i get rid of them?

Ben answers:

You must learn how you should fix the internal problem that’s causing your acne, not just masking the symptoms or getting relief. There are only few decent Sites and acne cure programs that can teach you exactly how to treat your acne from the inside.

Ben answers:

Want to know how I got rid of acne?

I avoided sugary stuff (chocolate bars, candy, coca cola, etc) like a plague and drank 12 cups of water a day.

It helped so much. My forehead was covered in pimples and after a month of this diet most of them dissapeared.

Lynn asks…

Is the Zeno Hot Spot worth getting?

So I’ve been breaking out a lot around my period and it’s starting to annoy me to no end and my typical acne treatment isn’t helping to stop all the pimples and crap. I was thinking about getting the Zeno Hot Spot because it looks legit. People have been saying that it doesn’t work but I wonder if they’re just using it on the wrong kind of acne, it clears up pimples, not cysts or white heads. So I was wondering if it’s worth getting because it would make me so much happier if I didn’t have to deal with all the breakouts anymore. THANKS!

Ben answers:

NO
i thought, hey maybe ill get this cuz its advertised in every magazine and if its super expensive it must work, but trust me – it doesnt. And it hurts! Its really meant for using on pimples that u think are coming in, which is really annoying cuz u really only notice u have a pimple once u can actually see it. I guess it works for preventing an incoming pimple under the skin from surfacing. This does not work on pimples that have already popped up on ur skin. Which is really annoying. And its painful. Dont get it

Susan asks…

best acne scar treatment?

I have a lot of bumps on my forehead, a lot of red scars on my cheeks, the rednes on my forehead does not go away. I have tried Accutaine but5 it only helped me five percent what treatment do you recommend, I want the acne and the scars to be gone completely., Iso people will know it is my skin. Also I hate a lot of people who have the acne that I have and I want to rub it in their face.

Ben answers:

Well, there is a natural home remedy that you can try that’s suppose to be used for removing stretch marks from being pregnant but you can use it for pretty much any kind of scaring. You probably already have all the ingredients at home so it shouldn’t cost you any money. Just use it a few times and you’ll notice the scars fading very quickly.

Just follow the instructional video and make sure you follow the procedure http://homeremediesforcuring.com/acne-scars

Good luck, I hope that helps :)

David asks…

Acne scar treatment for dark skin?

any suggestions. My skin used to be frickin flawless and now i have these stupid scars..i hate them.

Ben answers:

Get tretenoin, it’s the generic form of Retin A…so it’s a little less expensive. I have had acne scars and nothing besides a laser will take them off like tretenoin, and I have tried everything. A lactic acid peel would also help, its easy on black skin. There are some bleaching agents with hydroquinone that can help with the process of fading marks, but the bleaching agent alone will not fade those marks.

Graham asks…

Acne/Scar/razorbump treatment( 10 points)?

1. What is the best acne treatment? I have been using avon clearskin deep pore srub and avon corrector lotion.
2. Does Bio Oil Really work for scars? because I have black marks on my face because I would pick my face
3. What is the best treatment for razor bumps?

Ben answers:

Haha i saw your question and i was going to reccomend Bio Oil before I read the little blurb.
So…

1. If you have bad acne, I think the only real answer is to seek the advice of your GP or a dermatologist. I used to get quite bad breakouts so my doctor put me on antibiotics and now I use an anti-bacterial ointment-type thing which i just have to put on my face every night, which works; although you need a prescription to buy it. (It’s called ClindaTech)
Also, apparently salt water is really good for your skin, because it dries out spots but doesn’t break the skin’s natural barriers.

2. And yeah, I think Bio Oil is really good, I recently started using it again because I have slight scarring from acne, and I’ve noticed that the redness is clearing up. It’s also good because it doesn’t look greasy, so I use it during the daytime :)

3. And I’m not really sure about razor bumps, sorry…

Charlie asks…

Can you get acne scar treatment on the NHS?

Ben answers:

If you can get a sex change op on the NHS at taxpayers expense, I’m sure they can patch up a few scars for free. Get in quick though, when the Tories come into power next year things will change. (for the better)

Kylee asks…

What acne scar treatments are there available?

I got some acne scars, pits in my face. Which make me ashamed of myself everytime I look in the mirror. Anyways, what kind of treatments are available? Can i get collagen or silicon injections to make the skin smooth again?

And if you have never had acne before, be REALLY happy, it is AWFUL. Sucks big time :(

Ben answers:

Microdermabration its a laser treatment which peels off your skin and you regrow new skin. Very popular expensive but easily located at spas and medical facilities!

Elizabeth asks…

What is the best way to get rid of acne on your body?

I have acne all over my back. How do I get rid of it?

Ben answers:

You can actually use products meant for the face. Like, neutrogena makes an acne scrub you could use in the shower and you can use the stridex pads, too. (i swear by the red maximum stength ones). Tanning would help, too. Sun rays kill the bacteria that causes acne breakouts.

Mandy asks…

How to get rid of acne on your back?

Okay it’s really awful having well zits on your back and they are really hard to get rid of and awful when you go swimming I feel like that’s the only thing anyone sees about me is how bad my back looks everyone in my family has it but I want to get rid of it please help me get rid of this awful back acne!!! How can it just leave!!! HELP!!!

Ben answers:

Hello.
You might want to ask your dermatologist about Minocycline, an acne medication that you take orally in pill form. Minocycline not only helps get rid of facial acne, but acne on your body, or “bacne,” if I may. I have had bad acne in the past myself, on my face and on my back, and I took minocycline which helped me a lot!

Until you see your derm, you might want to look into body washes that have benzoyl peroxide as an active ingredient.

And don’t pick those zits! It will leave scarring.

Hope this helped! Good luck!

Shelley asks…

How do you get rid of acne on your back?

I have been getting really bad acne on my back from so much stress and i really need something over the counter to help me get rid of it. any ideas?

Ben answers:

Try lavender oil. Apply this oil on the back acne everyday for minimum 15 days or else apply fresh Aloe vera juice or the gel and wash after a few hours. When washing your back use a loofah, sponge or exfoliant to help remove any dead skin cells that may clog up pores. Use a gentle action and don’t be too harsh otherwise you will end up breaking the skin. You should probably change your shirt twice a day to avoid bacteria buildup. Please!…How can I get rid of my acne for good?

I want people to tell me their stories about their acne and what they tried to do to get rid of your acne? help!

Ben answers:

Try something for acne that has retinol (vitamin A) in it.
Wash your face twice a day (at night and in the morning).
Don’t touch your face, and keep your hair out of it.
Always use clean pillow cases and blankets (oils can stay on there and get your face dirty again.)
Drink lots of water.

What’s the best and fastest way to get rid of acne scars on the back and chest?

Can anyone tell me a way that i can get rid of my acne scars PLEASE! I was thinking of using hydroquinone but I’m African American and I’ve read that’s not a good for my skin color and isn’t good for some medical reasons so I want to know what should I use to get fast results because I want to show some skin this summer so if anyone could help me I would appreciate it.

Ben answers:

They have that laser resurfacing at the dermatologist, that gets rid of it. Its a couple of thousand dollars. Acne scars take years to go away. I have them too. They fade over a period of time.

Paul asks…

I want a tattoo on my chest, but I have scars and the occasional acne. Help?

Hi! So I have old acne scars on my chest. Ones that are way more than a year old. I’ve gone to the dermatologist a few times and they were able to flatten them down significantly so they’re nearly as smooth as the rest of my skin. I’m pretty sure (at least I think) I can get a tattoo over them. However, I still get the occasional zit or acne bump or whatever in that general area of my chest. It’s never anything too severe like a full on breakout, but they end up becoming a fairly good sized (painful) bump – kinda like what someone would get on their face that comes and goes (and yes, you can pop them). I’m currently taking a prescribed acne medicine for it that dries out the skin.
So anywho, I’m pretty sure that I CAN get a tattoo over the scarred area. But I’m wondering if I SHOULD since I still get an occasional bump or two on that area. I’m actually getting a fairly big heart on my chest which is obviously gonna be a scarlet red. I’m thinking it should help camouflage any blemishes. Has anyone dealt with this kind of problem? Any photos? Advice?

Ben answers:

I’d say go to a tattoo shop and ask someone there. They’d be much more experienced and able to tell you better than anyone here could.

Nancy asks…

Have you ever had sex with a guy that had deep acne scars on his chest and back?

I am 23 yo, never had a girlfriend or came close to a girl because I’ve always had scars on my body. I am a very nice guy, I am not a stuck up and I am very good looking and tall (thank god). There are lots of girls that want to go out with. But I never had a girlfriend or sex ever.

Please tell me a bit about your experience if you are in a similar situation or ever dated a person like me. Did he tell you about his scars before the sex? What was your reaction once you saw the scars? I just cant keep living my life without sex or a girlfriend. I wish that I was dead or reborn with out any acne. I just cannot function well, cant study, cant focus, cant read, cant have any fun.
thank you all for your answers. im more confident that my life stinks and not worth living. kobe_on_fire I thought of coming up with a story like i got the scars in iraq or i slept on grass naked. nothing seems to be believable at all. ill give my self a second chance if i cannot have sex in three years then maybe i should go to iraq and hopefully get shot there and die a martyr.

Ben answers:

I am not sure how bad is your acne scars. If you are confident of yourself, there is nothing to be embarass or afraid of.
First impression count since you have confident in your look and nothing matter then. By the way, when the light is off you can’t see anything.

Jane asks…

How to get rid of acne on your chest and back?

so i have scars and little acne on my back and a lot of noticeable scars on my chest and I need to get rid of them because it’s really bothering me and I’m really insecure about it and then randomly acne starts to break out on my chest.

Ben answers:

I can totally relate to what you are saying as I struggled with back acne for 2 years and have finally found the answer to my problem. Most people don’t get it and say “at least it’s not on your face” but most people look at it and just say “that’s so gross!” and it really gets you down. Bacne (and chestne) are genetic and it’s not like we can help it :(

For me, 2 things really worked after so many treatments flopped and just made me feel like there was no answer:

1. JASON natural cosmetics tea tree body wash
2. Exfoliation

I tried the vinegar method, the Head and Shoulders shampoo method, the “nothing” method, and seemingly every body acne wash on the market. Only this Jason wash really worked, and FAST. My bacne was dramatically reduced in one day and using this wash twice a day dried out the pimples and lessened scarring/marks for a clear back in just 1 week. I still can’t believe it, but exfoliating was also an important part. I find loofahs too abrasive, but I exfoliated quite strongly in the shower (2 times per day before applying body wash) using a bath sponge and it really works. The wash is gentle and not drying on the body and it works like nothing else. I had some minor scarring/marking and the wash helped to fade it as well as lemon juice (diluted) works really well to fade scars.

Good luck :) I hope it works for you like it did for me!!

Ben answers:

I have very oily skin, and these are three secrets that I’ve learned after several pimple scars and trips to the dermatologist:

1. Prescriptions, prescriptions, prescriptions. I don’t even like to use antibiotics until there is no possible way that I will get over my 103 degree fever on my own, but here is one area where the tough stuff is worth it. If over the counter drugs aren’t helping your pores or pimples, find a good dermatologist in the area and go to get good medicine to use as directed (usually one or two times a day) to help. It can take a couple of weeks to see the results you want, but keep using the medicine and it will be well worth it.
2. Wash your face. Wash your face with soap and water every day. If you are using medicines or creams, do this before you use them. Having clean pores helps prevent pimples and gives you clean, fresh skin. You can use soap or those aveno washing scrubs. As long as you wash your face every day at least once in the morning.
3. (and the most important) MOISTURIZE! This is the one that surprised me by making the biggest difference. Even when I don’t have enough time to wash my face or put cream on, I ALWAYS moisturize. The reason that skin gets oily is because that is our body’s natural way of moisturizing our skin. That’s why just washing your face can be detrimental and unproductive: you’re just drying out your skin more so that it will produce MORE oils. Get an oil free moisturizer. I use mine every morning and night, and if my face feels dry (especially in the winter), I’ll put it on in the middle of the day. Drinking a lot of water can also help to add luster to your colouring.

The best thing to do would be to find a dermatologist, though. I know it seems a little weird and specialized, but I went through years of trial and error, and after I found my doctor as a last straw move, things improved in weeks, and before the end of a year everything was under control.

Good luck!

Elizabeth asks…

how do i get rid of my acne?

i am so self concious and sheltered because of my acne.it is pretty bad aloong with really really dry skin…what should i do?

does anyone have any tips or tricks?

and spectal things u use?

Ben answers:

•As with any common condition, keeping your body hydrated is sound advice.

•Drink herbal or green tea at least once a day to help detox your system.

•Try Dan’s regimen of gently washing your face twice a day, then applying generous amounts of benzoyl peroxide and finally putting on a good non-comodogenic moisturizer.

•Cleanse the colon by taking psyllium husks with water once or twice per day. This is another excellent way of detoxing the body. Psyllium can be found at most chemists, pharmacies, and drugstores.
•Sometimes the best way of taking care of this condition is by doing it naturally, as in using natural products. Witch Hazel can help when applied with a cotton swab after washing your face.

•It may not seem like it, but green apples are extremely good for preventing and fighting existing acne both on your face and around the body. To avoid acne, eat one green apple a day (cut it into slices if need be and eat it throughout the day). And to reduce existing acne, cut a green apple into quarters and rub two of those quarters over the acne areas. If needed, use the rest, or just eat them. Combine this with drinking plenty of water to achieve clear skin.

•If all else fails and you have severe problems: Accutane (also referred to as Roaccutane) removes the underlying root of Acne and will in many cases rid you of the problem forever. It does however have several side effects and potential severe ones.
•If you have glasses wash them so that all the oil is off your face.
•There are no perfect creams or medicines that make your face smooth, soft and acne-free.

•Try sleeping upright as often as possible (with your back facing the bed)
•If you smoke, quit smoking, as nicotine, an ingredient found in cigarettes, has been tied to the eruption of acne on the skin. Quit smoking, and notice your skin becoming clearer.
•Consult your dermatologist, he can help you get rid of the problem better than you can do it yourself.

•Oily skin may be a bad thing now. Fortunatly, the oils on your skin will slow down the aging process so you wont have many wrinkles when your older.

•Always wash your face when you are sweaty. The oils in your skin can cause more breakouts, stress also takes a part of breaking out. When you are stressed, the chances of breaking out are 55.5%.
•Also, if you have bangs, wash them every 2 day’s to stay with a clean forehead.

Thomas asks…

What can i do about my acne?

I am one of those people who have acne and feels like it affects my self-confidence. Any tips and tricks on managment would be MUCH MUCH MUCH apreciated.

Ben answers:

OMJ exact same problem!!! I’m 15, and I’ve got awful skin, but I have great news!! I found an effective and inexpensive answer!! (ok wow, that sounded like a commercial!) LOL. Ok here are a few tips first off:

1. Keep your hands off of your face at ALL costs
2. Take Flaxseed oil pills daily (available in capsule and liquid form. You can buy them at your local grocery store for not too much)
3. Drink plenty of water
4. Pat your face dry, not rub

Here’s what I use, I LOVE IT! It smells and feels amazing!! Super clean and easy to use, not extremely expensive and it honestly works. If you are vigilent and consistent it only took my skin about 10-15 days to clear up. I was washing it morning and night with diff cleansers (I’ll put links down below) and using a moistourizer. THAT’s IT!
I still have a few acne spots itself but they are shrinking and leaving quickly, now I have to battle the blotchy skin. However, overall I’ve never felt confident!

Here’s what I use in the morning: http://www.biore.com/usa/products/productDetail.asp?productId=23

Night-time: http://www.biore.com/usa/products/productDetail.asp?productId=24

Moisturizer ( I used this day and night, right after I washed my face): http://www.biore.com/usa/products/productDetail.asp?productId=20

If you take the online quiz at the Biore site, they will offer you MANY things to buy, but above is ALL that I used. Three things :)
If you have any more questions on what I used, PLEASE don’t hesitate to email me, also see acne.org for more tips. Best of luck!

Joseph asks…

do you have any tips for getting rid of acne?

is there any at home common product you can use?!

i’m on a budget so yeah

and also does the tooth paste trick work?

Ben answers:

This is what I suggest:

Mix baking soda and witch hazel/or water together until it comes to a good consistancy, and then spread on your face and leave it on for 10-15 minutes. These two things are very inexpensive and it’s very easy to do since there is only two ingredients.

Toothpaste is good for drying out your pimple (for some people). Put only a little bit before you go to sleep. But this is not recommended to everyone because it can make it worse.

Try to buy a cleanser that works for you, and when you wash your face, open your pores with hot water (not too hot, or it will dry out your skin) and massage it gently into your skin. Then, use cold water at the end to close you pores. The smaller your pores are, the less likely you’re prone to pimples. Don’t use body soaps because they dry out your skin. Don’t scrub too hard when you wash your face, because it can irritate your skin.

Zinc (type of vitamin) is the one of the best things you can use to get rid of pimples. You can buy these almost about any large store (such as Wal-Mart or Shaws.) Have one or two tablet per day and try to cut down the junk food and replace it with vegetables and fruits. Drink lots of water and don’t pop you acne. Popping acne can lead to acne scars. Zinc can be found in many types of fishes.

If you have sensitive skin, don’t use make up. Some of the things in make up can clog your pores and cause pimples. Keep your hands out of your face as much as you can because you hands are full of bacteria and oils. Keep your hair out of your face because the oils in your hair could go into your pores. Change you sheets because they’re are trapped with dirt, oils, etc.

An egg yoke can be used to make you pores smaller. I used this when I had pimples. Just take the egg yolk (the yellow part) and leave it on your face for 10-15 minutes and rinse off with warm water and then splash your face with cold water. Aloe vera helps acne scars lighten and less noticeable (lemon, cocoa butter, witch hazel, and tea tree oil do the same thing). Use the gel (of the aloe plant) or the real thing.
